The EIRL was setup in 1983 with the aid from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (IHRD), Govt. of India. A total grant of Rs. 40 lakhs has been sanctioned for the setting up of this laboratory. The laboratory is equipped with Data Logging, Logic Analyzers/Scopes and General Purpose Measuring Instruments.

Research work is being carried out in the areas of Electronic Insturmentation and Microprocessor based measurement and control Systems. The EIRL also proposes to setup a standards laboratory.
